Vietnam and Saudi Arabia signed Agreement of Manpower Cooperation

On September 24, 2014, Vietnam and Saudi Arabia signed a five-year labor agreement, aimed at protecting the interests of Vietnamese employees, especially domestic aides such as housemaids and family drivers.

The manpower cooperation agreement was signed by Dr. Ahmed Al-Fahaid, Deputy Labor Minister for International Affairs of Saudi Arabia, and Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hoa, Deputy Minister for Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs of Vietnam during the visit of the Vietnamese delegation to the Kingdom in late September 2014. The agreement includes a provision for automatic renewal after the five-year term expires. Under the labor pact, the Saudi government is committed to enforcing regulations on hiring domestic workers from Vietnam. A 24-hour assistance mechanism for domestic workers will be established. The agreement also provides for the quick resolution of disputes and the facilitation of exit visas for repatriation upon contract completion or during emergencies. Dr. Al-Fahaid stated, “We are very confident that cases of abuse will be significantly reduced after this agreement takes effect, as the accord ensures fair and humane treatment of domestics worker.”

By the end of 2014, it is estimated that about 3,000 household helpers out of 15,000 Vietnamese employees are working in Saudi Arabia. Vietnam primarily provides housemaids to Saudi families, with a salary of SR1,300 per month. Housemaids have one day off per week and receive an overtime wage of around SR50 per day if they work on this day.

Representatives from Glo-Tech Company were part of the Vietnamese delegation to Saudi Arabia. It was our honor to be warmly welcomed by Dr. Al-Fahaid and other officials from the Saudi Ministry of International Affairs (The Ministry's delegation had chosen Glo-Tech as the only Vietnamese manpower company to visit during their trip to Vietnam in June 2014). On this occasion, we had important meetings with major Saudi companies to strengthen and expand our operations in this potential market.

Glo-Tech's delegation also visited our workers currently employed in the Kingdom. Positive feedback was received, as workers expressed satisfaction with their work and employers, and hoped that Glo-Tech would bring more job opportunities to other Vietnamese people. Additionally, the quality of our workers was recognized by clients ranging from Saudi families to Saudi companies. It is our pleasure to see the national workforce highly appreciated in the international market, thereby opening more job opportunities for Vietnamese workers."
