Vietnam and Saudi Arabia signed Agreement of Manpower Cooperation

On 24 September, 2014, Vietnam and Saudi Arabia signed a five-year labor pact, which aimed at protecting the interests of Vietnamese employees, especially domestic aides, including housemaids, family drivers, etc.

The Agreement of manpower cooperation was signed between Dr. Ahmed Al-Fahaid, Deputy labor minister for International affairs of Saudi Arabia and Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hoa, Deputy minister for Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Vietnam during the visit of Vietnamese delegation to the Kingdom in late September, 2014. The agreement had a provision for automatic renewal after the five-year term expires.

According to the labor pact, Saudi government is committed to enforce regulations on the hiring of domestics from Vietnam. A 24-hour-a-day mechanism for domestic workers’ assistance will be in place. The agreement also provides for quick resolution of disputes, and facilitation of exit visas for repatriation upon contract completion or during emergencies. Dr. Al-Fahaid said: “We are very confident that cases of abuse will be reduced significantly after this agreement takes effect because the accord ensures fair and humane treatment of domestics”.

By the end of 2014, it is estimated that about 3,000 household helpers out of 15,000 Vietnamese employees are working in Saudi Arabia. Vietnam mostly provides housemaids to Saudi families, at the salary of SR1,300/month. Housemaids have 1 day off/week and receive over-time wage of around SR50/day if working on this day.

In the Vietnamese Delegation to K.S.A have representatives of Glo-Tech Company. It was our honor to be warmly welcomed by Dr. Al-Fahaid and other officials from Saudi Ministry of International affairs (Delegation of the Ministry had chosen Glo-Tech as the only Vietnamese manpower company to visit on their trip to Vietnam in June, 2014). On this occasion, we had important meetings with big Saudi companies to strengthen and widen our operation in this potential market.

Glo-Tech’s delegation also visited our workers currently working in the Kingdom. Positive feedbacks were collected when workers all expressed satisfaction with their work and employers, hoping that Glo-Tech would bring more job opportunities to other Vietnamese people. On the other hand, quality of our workers was recognized by clients from Saudi families to Saudi companies. It is our pleasure to see the national workforce is highly appreciated in the international market, opening more and more jobs to Vietnamese workers.
